Greenfield

At Greenfield, we empower every student to build independence, grow resilience, aspire with confidence, form relationships, and thrive into adulthood.

Our vision is to create a centre of excellence for our learners both at Bodmin College and across CELT — a place where staff are empowered through high-quality training, professional collaboration, and the sharing of best practice.
The SEN Hub will build expertise, inspire innovation, and drive the highest standards of inclusive education, ensuring every young person receives the support they need to thrive.

Provision Overview

At Greenfield, our intent is to deliver a specialist, ambitious education for learners with diverse and complex needs. We provide an adapted curriculum designed by subject specialists, combining academic progression with targeted interventions and life skills, always underpinned by preparation for adulthood. Our goal is for every learner to graduate as a confident communicator, independent thinker, and valued member of their community.

We promote inclusion across the whole school — whether through subject specialist teaching within Greenfield or by enabling learners to access learning alongside their peers in the mainstream environment. We aim to maximise opportunities for inclusion and ensure the right support is in place so learners can succeed in different contexts.

We are proud to be part of Bodmin College and make full use of the resources, support, and sense of belonging it provides. We actively encourage learners to be part of the wider school community by wearing full uniform, attending year group assemblies, joining after-school clubs, and sharing break and lunch times. All of this is done with careful consideration, keeping our learners’ needs at the heart of every decision.

Our Curriculum

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong core in English, maths, and science. Alongside this, PSHE, life skills, and preparation for adulthood form a golden thread running through all areas of learning. The main aim of our curriculum is to prepare students for their next steps in education and life.

Because of the diversity of needs across Greenfield, some learning is more heavily weighted towards life skills and future employability, while others follow more traditional pathways through Entry Level, Functional Skills, or GCSE qualifications. At Greenfield, we have the agility to cater for both bespoke and traditional pathways.

Our curriculum is enriched by input from subject specialists at Bodmin College, including English, science, maths, PE, computer science, and drama. This strengthens and broadens our offer, giving learners the best chance to continue progressing with their knowledge and skills.

Impact

  • Academic progress: Regular monitoring against individual and national benchmarks (where relevant).
  • Social and emotional growth: Improved communication, resilience, and relationships.
  • Independence and PfA skills: Development of self-care, problem-solving, employability, and daily living skills to prepare pupils for adulthood.
  • Engagement: Attendance, participation, and pupil voice reflect motivation and enjoyment.
  • Transition outcomes: Successful progression into the wider school, further education, or adult pathways.
  • Real inclusion: Pupils experience parity of curriculum and shared opportunities with peers, demonstrating alignment and ambition.

Enrichment

Alongside our curriculum, we ensure every learner has access to meaningful enrichment opportunities.

We are actively involved in the Flourish Garden Project, supported by St Petrocs Church, to create a community garden that is a reflective and sensory space, while also producing farm-to-fork produce to sell locally. This project gives learners real-world experiences, builds vital skills, and opens future career pathways in sustainable industries.

The Jubilee Challenge is another highlight of our calendar. Learners take part in an 8-mile course alongside schools across the country, including students with visual impairments and wheelchair users. This event challenges learners well beyond their comfort zones, developing resilience, friendships, independence, and pride through overnight camping and managing their own equipment.

In July, we launched the first Greenfield Residential. Twenty-five learners and four staff members spent two nights on a working farm in Devon, taking part in treasure hunts, sheep herding, gorse walking, sunset watching, arts and crafts, and even a “Greenfield’s Got Talent” show. For many, it was their first time away from home, providing invaluable opportunities to build independence, adaptability, and self-belief.

Our enrichment offer is strong and developing further. Thanks to the inclusivity of Bodmin College, our learners also access a wide range of wider opportunities — from school trips abroad to Italy, to dance events and extracurricular clubs. Enrichment is not an add-on; it sits alongside our curriculum, integral to our learners’ development and future success.
