Enrichment

At Bodmin College, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom, which is why we place such importance on offering our students a wide range of enriching experiences. From international adventures that broaden horizons and build cultural awareness, to residential trips that foster independence, teamwork and resilience, our students are encouraged to embrace opportunities that shape them both academically and personally. Fieldwork brings learning to life, enabling students to explore the world around them and apply classroom knowledge in real contexts, while visits to theatres, galleries and museums spark curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. These experiences are not just memorable moments – they are stepping stones that help young people grow in confidence, discover new passions and deepen their understanding of the world. We know that trips and visits create shared memories, strengthen friendships, and give students a sense of belonging and pride in their learning journey. At Bodmin College, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the chance to take part in these opportunities, because we know they are transformative, inspiring and play a vital role in preparing our young people for life beyond school.

Vision

At Bodmin College, enrichment is at the heart of our vision for a life of choice and boundless opportunities. We believe learning extends beyond the classroom, giving every student the chance to explore passions, discover new talents and grow in confidence. Through a diverse programme of clubs, activities and experiences – from sport and the arts to leadership and cultural opportunities – we open doors, broaden horizons and inspire ambition. Our commitment is that every student leaves Bodmin College ready to lead a life full of possibility.

There are many experiences available throughout the year. We have residential trips to Paris and Spain, exciting expeditions with our Ten Tors and Duke of Edinburgh programmes, theatre visits, fieldwork in Geography, rewards experiences, and much more. Check out some photos from previous experiences in the gallery below.

What to expect when a trip is advertised

When an experience is advertised, we’ll often invite expressions of interest first. This helps us to know whether we will have enough interest to cover the cost of the experience for students. We always work to keep the cost as low as possible while also providing a valuable and enriching experience. You will receive electronic copies of letters, and these will include:

  • a full itinerary of the experience
  • the cost of the experience, and details of payment plans where applicable
  • kit list – anything specific students will need to bring with them
  • travel arrangements, such as walking or coach
  • uniform expectations
  • details of financial support available
  • contact details of the trip leader

For residential and international trips, we will invite parents and carers in for an information session before the trip departs so everyone knows what to expect, and provide an opportunity for any final questions.

Support

At Bodmin College, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to take part in the exciting enrichment experiences offered throughout the year. We are committed to ensuring no student misses out due to financial difficulties.

If the cost of these experiences presents a financial challenge for your family, the school is here to help. In some circumstances, we can provide financial support, which may include contributing towards the cost or covering the full amount, depending on the nature of the request. Our aim is to support families in a way that ensures every child can fully participate in this enriching experience.

To apply for financial assistance, parents or careers will need to complete a Financial Support Request Form. These will be available from the Trip Leader, and are also linked below. This form allows you to outline your circumstances and explain the support you may require. Please be assured that all requests will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.

Once your form has been submitted, our team will review the information and get in touch to discuss the support we can offer. We are committed to working with families to ensure a solution that allows every student to take part without added stress or worry.

We encourage families to contribute where possible, as this helps us to continue offering such opportunities in the future. However, we understand that every situation is different, and we are here to help in any way we can. If you have any questions about financial support, please contact the school office. We are happy to assist and ensure these experiences are accessible to all.
