Student Voice
At Bodmin College, we are proud to offer a range of student-led initiatives and support systems that empower young people to lead, contribute, and feel supported throughout their time at school. Whether through leadership roles or inclusive networks, we make sure every student has a voice and a place in our school community.
School Council
Our School Council plays a central role in shaping student life and ensuring that all voices are heard. Elections take place each Autumn Term, with representatives chosen from every tutor group.
In addition to Tutor Representatives, we also elect EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) Representatives to ensure a wide range of views are represented and to support a culture of respect and belonging across the school.
The council meets regularly in year group teams to discuss student ideas, offer feedback on school decisions, and work with staff to make real improvements in areas that matter to students.
Student Leadership Team (Year 11)
Our Student Leadership Team is made up of selected Year 11 students who serve as role models and representatives for the wider school.
The team includes:
- Head Students
- Deputy Head Students
- A wider group of Student Leaders
Together, they support school events, lead assemblies, represent the student voice at formal occasions, and work closely with staff to influence positive change. The experience helps develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that prepare students for future roles in education and beyond.
Peer Mentoring
Our Peer Mentors play a vital role in supporting student wellbeing, especially during transition points and times of need.
- Selection & Training: Students are selected during the Spring Term of Year 7 through an application process.
- Professional Training: All Peer Mentors are trained using the Anna Freud Peer Mentoring Programme, delivered in partnership with the NHS.
- Transition Support: Mentors support new students during transition events, such as welcome days.
1:1 Support: Peer Mentors also provide confidential one-to-one mentoring to selected students, helping to build confidence and social connections.
Reception Runners
Our Reception Ambassadors, known as Reception Runners, are selected from Year 8 and take part in this role for one designated day each academic year.
Under the direction of the admin team, they:
- Deliver messages and resources across the school
- Greet and welcome visitors
- Support reception staff with general administrative tasks
This role helps students develop independence, responsibility, and confidence in a professional environment.
LGBTQ+ Support
We are proud to foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all students, including those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Support includes:
- A weekly Pride Club, run in collaboration with the Intercom Trust
- Events throughout the year to raise awareness and celebrate diversity
- Safe spaces and supportive staff for students to talk openly and feel respected
