Next Steps South West

Next Steps South West are a government funded consortium working under the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP). Next Steps is made up of partners from all further education and higher education providers across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and works with over 70 schools.

NCOP aims to increase the number of young people from low participation areas to continue studying at higher education – whether at university, through apprenticeships or whatever route. The main aim of this project is to raise awareness of potential options and provide support and encouragement for students to achieve their full potential.

Students that are from identified low participation areas and have the potential to study at higher education, will be eligible to be part of the Next Steps South West project. This involves in-school sessions for thinking about higher education options, subject specific activities and tasters, summer schools, campus visits and careers support and guidance. The project is opt-in and no student has to be involved if they do not wish, but we hope they would like to join the project and enjoy the activities on offer to them.
