Following the Government’s announcement yesterday I am writing to provide you with the latest information about the precautions we are taking and the recommended advice for students, staff and parents.

Public Health England’s advice regarding symptoms and self-isolation has changed. The new advice from the NHS advises that:

  • Anyone exhibiting a high temperature and/or a new, continuous cough should self-isolate for 7 days.
  • Anyone living with someone who has symptoms, should isolate for 14 days from the day the first person showed symptoms.
  • Anyone classified as vulnerable should practise social distancing.

The links below provide further information and guidance:

In accordance with Government advice, we are doing our best to maintain normal opening at Bodmin College. However, it is increasingly likely that staff and student attendance will be adversely affected. We have an action plan in place that is outlined in brief below. We have now moved to Stage 2a of our action plan and may be required to move to stage 2b imminently.

Stage 1 Normal Opening: Increased cleaning and increased hygiene. Monitoring vulnerabilities and taking precautionary action. Preparation for stage 2.
Stage 2a Reduced Activities: Cancellation of all non-essential activities. Online learning availability for absent students. Changes to timetabled classes. Consideration of partial closure to certain year groups.
Stage 2b Partial School Closure: Partial closure applies to certain year groups. Online learning provision for all affected.
Stage 3 Full School Closure Online learning provision for all affected.

Please be assured that we are doing all we can to operate as normally as possible in our commitment to ensure high quality learning for all students in a safe and positive environment. However, our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and parents.

You were recently sent reminders of how to access the normal online learning resources via ShowMyHomework and RMPortico. Please familiarise yourselves with these and make the necessary preparations with regards to learning resources.

Further guidance will follow to support your child with their online education should this be necessary and we will continue to provide regular updates through the usual communication channels of email (post if email unavailable) and our website.

Please ensure that we have the correct contact details and in particular email addresses. These can be updated through the SIMS Parent App or by contacting reception. Please note that the Facebook page is for outward going information only and is not monitored regularly.

At the current time, we remain open as normal (stage 2a) and will keep you informed of any changes with as much notice as possible.

Thank you, once again, for your support and cooperation,

Mrs Emmie Seward-Adams
