NEW: Revised upcoming dates

In light of the current situation, we are reviewing the following events on the calendar. We aim to be able to offer alternative formats and dates for these events which will be confirmed in due course.

Thurs 14th Jan: Year 9 Parents’ Event  – postponed (new information to follow)

Thurs 21st Jan: Year 8 Parents’ Event  – postponed (new information to follow)

Thurs 4th Feb:  Year 8  Options Event  – postponed (new information to follow)

NEW: Exams

Whilst Summer examinations for GCSE and A-level have been cancelled, the government has advised that the BTEC examinations taking place up until the 20th January can still run, at the discretion of schools and colleges. We have already been in touch with all students affected by this – please contact Dr Dixon (dm@bodmincollege.co.uk) with any queries.

For all students in Years 10 – 13 who were preparing for Summer examinations, we await further guidance from the DfE and Ofqual regarding how grades will be awarded this year. It is essential that all students continue applying themselves fully to remote learning in order to ensure their best progress.

NEW: Access to technology

Contrary to the press reports and government announcements promising laptops, at this point in time, we have only been provided with a handful of devices to allocate to students. We are seeking additional support with this but if your child has any issues accessing remote learning due to a lack of technology, please contact your child’s Head of Year. Furthermore, we are investigating possibilities mentioned in the press regarding access to increased data bundles and 4G routers. We are currently going through the information and guidance from the DfE and will write to you shortly with more information.

If you are aware of any local businesses or organisations who may be able to support with access to devices for students or who are able to make a financial donation, or if you are able to donate a device yourself, we would be hugely grateful if you could let reception know or complete the ‘Contact us’ form.

NEW: Free school meals

If you missed the deadline for booking FSM food boxes, please complete the form here: FSM Parent Ordering Request. Please also contact reception to ensure that we are aware that you have submitted this request.

We are awaiting further details from the DfE regarding FSM provision – we will be in touch with qualifying families once details are confirmed.

NEW: Covid-19 screening

Due to the national lockdown, previous arrangements for mass testing of all students have been paused. We are, however, beginning to roll out testing for VKW students and staff who are on school site. If your child is currently attending VKW provision, please familiarise yourself with the guidance attached.

NEW: MADE revision sessions

As a result of the current situation, the MADE training sessions for students and parents that had been scheduled for this week have been postponed until the 20th January. Further details about how these sessions will run remotely and how they will be adapted for this year’s changing examination landscape will follow in next week’s bulletin.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you all for the many messages of support we have received this week. We really appreciate this and wish to assure you that we are working hard to provide the best support for you and your families at this time. Unfortunately, we have seen a small increase in the number of people being aggressive towards our staff – we appreciate that it is a difficult time and everyone is facing challenges – however, we are here to help and we would ask that our staff are treated with respect and politeness, as we work together to ensure the best possible situation for all.
