NEW: Free Period products available in school

Bodmin College has been part of the ongoing government scheme to provide free period products to UK students who need them. These products will be available across the school from all heads of year and certain members of staff. A limited number of re-usable products will also be available for any students interested in a more sustainable option – please talk to tutors and heads of year about this.

NEW: “Let’s talk about Higher Education” Parent Information Webinar Year 10-13

Next Steps SW (NSSW) works with schools and colleges across the South West, helping young people reach their potential by giving fair access to impartial advice about study routes and careers.  This 1 hour webinar is designed to give you information on how your child could progress onto Higher Education (HE). Short talks from staff, student ambassadors and local employers will give different perspectives on the benefits of HE and the options available. An online Q&A platform will allow you to post questions before and during the session to be answered by the panel at the end of the event. For more information, and to sign up for this event, follow this link: https://nextstepssw.ac.uk/events-and-activities/lets-talk-parent-webinar/

REMINDER: Upcoming dates

Thurs 26th November: Year 10 English/Maths/Science Parent Event – postponed. Year 10 parents/carers will be written to separately.

Thurs 3rd December: Year 11 Parents’ Evening – we are currently trialling a new virtual system and will write shortly with details.

REMINDER: Covid-19 Guidance for parents/carers

We have put together some guidance based on Public Health England and Bodmin College protocols, designed to help parents in taking the correct course of action in a variety of Covid related situations. This information can be accessed here on the Bodmin College website and includes:

  1. What to do if your child or a member of your household develops symptoms of COVID19
  2. What to do if your child receives a positive test result
  3. What to do if your child is identified as a close contact or a household member tests positive

REMINDER: Stationery and Facemasks

We are finding that increasing numbers of students are asking to borrow equipment in lessons. Please refer to the equipment lists in student planners or on the website as a reminder of the essential items that students need for school. In order to reduce the risks of spreading the virus, it is vital that students avoid sharing equipment with other students and whilst we are able to lend some equipment to students, this poses complications for quarantining before further use. Please also note that it is essential that students have a face covering for school (unless exempt for any reason). Reusable facemasks can be purchased for £1.10 via the college online shop.

REMINDER: Satchel One remote learning

All lessons are being made available on Satchel One (previously Show My Homework). If a student is absent from school for any reason, including self-isolating, shielding or personal/family reasons and if they are well enough to access online learning, they should complete the classwork tasks for each lesson which are accessible on Satchel One. Lessons will appear as per their normal timetable. This provision is in place to support students and avoid anyone missing out on learning.
