Animal Care

We currently keep hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, an axolotl, a tortoise, sheep, ducks and pygmy goats. Our range of animals can vary and we are always looking to widen it.

BTEC First Award Animal Care

This course is an introduction to working in the animal care sector, a vital and expanding industry in the UK. The course covers 2 compulsory units – Animal Health and Animal Handling. Students then study 2 of the following 3 units – Animal Welfare, Animal Accommodation and Animal Behaviour.

Unit 1 - Animal Health is assessed by a one hour written exam paper which is externally marked. This makes up 25% of the final grade.

The remaining three units are assessed through project style coursework. These are internally marked and externally verified. These projects make up the remaining 75% of the final grade.
