‘Striving for excellence by putting the learner first’
As Principal, I would like to extend you a warm welcome from the Governors, staff, students and community of Bodmin College.
One of the aims of our website is to introduce you to the College and provide you with some details regarding the opportunities and learning that takes place here and to assist you in understanding why we are very proud of our College, its history and place at the heart of this friendly community.
Bodmin College is a large 11-19 establishment providing an ‘outstanding’ educational experience in which we maintain high standards of achievement and traditional values within a disciplined and caring environment. Students are encouraged to enjoy their education, to develop respect for others and, through assuming responsibility, to develop as reliable and mature individuals ready to take an active role in adult life.
In 2010, Bodmin College received an ‘outstanding’ report from Ofsted. This judgement placed the College in the top 8% of secondary schools across the country and confirmed our place at the forefront of high performing schools as we were the first secondary in the Local Authority to be invited to apply for Academy status which we achieved in 2011. Our 2014 inspection judged the school to be good with many outstanding features. Whilst the report contains numerous accolades I list below some of our favourites:‘Teaching is consistently good. Teachers have good subject knowledge and use resources, notably information and communication technology (ICT), very well to enhance students’ understanding with interesting tasks’ ‘Students are friendly, polite and very keen to learn. They get on well together, and have high levels of respect for their teachers’ ‘The curriculum is a major strength of the College which is much appreciated by students and parents…’ ‘The Sixth Form is well led, a particular strength being its many links with higher education’
Our key objectives are:
- To improve the attainment and progress of all students in all subjects
- To improve the educational opportunities for all students in all subjects
- To improve the quality of the learning experience for all students in all subjects
- To assist and work in partnership with parents and carers to improve students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
Our high standards and expectations of our students are supported by a traditional set of values in which we expect everyone to be polite, be honest and try to work to the very best of their ability.
Whilst no website can take the place of personal contact or a visit, we are hopefully that it is of assistance and that our partnership is fulfilling and one that ensures your child achieves their potential and enjoys school. If we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
