Principal’s Welcome
‘Striving for excellence by putting the learner first’
Dear Parent
As Principal I would like to extend to you a warm welcome from the Governors, staff, students and community of Bodmin College.
One of the aims of our website is to introduce you to the College and provide you with some details regarding the opportunities and learning that takes place here and to assist you in understanding why we are very proud of our College, its history and place at the heart of this friendly community.
Bodmin College is a large 11 – 19 establishment providing an ‘outstanding’ educational experience in which we maintain high standards of achievement and traditional values within a disciplined and caring environment. Students are encouraged to enjoy their education, to develop respect for others and, through assuming responsibility, to develop as reliable and mature individuals ready to take an active role in adult life.
In 2010 Bodmin College received an ‘outstanding’ report from Ofsted. This judgment placed the College in the top 8% of secondary schools across the country and confirmed our place at the forefront of high performing schools as we were the first secondary school in the Local Authority to be invited to apply for Academy status. Whilst the report contains numerous accolades please find two of our favourite quotations below:
‘Bodmin College is an outstanding College. The curriculum is outstanding and fully meets the needs of all students, who throughout the College receive excellent care, guidance and support.’
‘… Students feel very safe and are committed to a good, healthy lifestyle. Behaviour is good; and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent.’
Following our fantastic success as a Specialist Science College we were, in 2009, awarded acknowledgment as a High Performing Specialist Schools following recognition of the exceptional progress being made by our students. Consequently, we were afforded the opportunity to pursue a second specialism as a centre of excellence for Leadership. With notable success in both areas and a changing political emphasis it was unanimously agreed to pursue the new Specialism Quality Mark used by the National College to assess educational performance across a range of criteria; our success at the highest level was the first in the country and reaffirms the positive impact of our specialisms on all subjects and students at the College.
Our key objectives are to:
- Improve the attainment and progress of all students in all subjects
- Improve the educational opportunities for all students in all subjects
- Improve the quality of the learning experience for all students in all subjects
- Assist and work in partnership with parents and carers to improve students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
Values/Ethos
Our high standards and expectations of our students are supported by a traditional set of values in which we expect everyone to: be polite; be honest, and; to work to the very best of their ability.
Whilst no website can take the place of personal contact or a visit, we are hopeful that it is of assistance and that our partnership is fulfilling and one that ensures your child achieves their potential and enjoys school. If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
