
BTEC Animal Care Level 2
This is a course aimed at those who wish to work with animals in the future. It involves theory work on a range of animal topics which are set out below. There is a significant element of practical work in the course which is also assessed so be prepared to get your hands dirty!
We currently keep hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, an axolotl, a tortoise and pygmy goats. Our range of animals can vary and we are always looking to widen it.

Your work is presented in a wide range of formats and can include photographs and video footage. There is a lot of scope to include work you do with animals outside of school including your own pets.
The course is offered at 3 levels;
Level 2 Certificate
At this level students study 2 units;
- Maintain Animal Accommodation
- Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
Level 2 Extended Certificate
At this level students study 5 units of work;
- Maintain Animal Accommodation Undertake
- Practical Animal Feeding
- Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
- Understand the Basic Principles of Animal Biology
Level 2 Diploma
At this level students study 7 units of work;
- Undertake Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries Maintain Animal Accommodation
- Undertake Practical Animal Feeding Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
- Introduction to the Principles and Practices of Animal Behaviour and Handling
- Introduction to Animal Breeds and Grooming Understand the Basic Principles of Animal Biology
All students begin on the extended certificate.
